Best Cause Marketing Campaigns

Cause marketing - where a brand aligns itself with a social cause - has become one of the dominant strategies in contemporary advertising. When it works, it creates campaigns that are simultaneously commercially effective and socially meaningful. When it doesn't, it produces what critics have called 'purpose-washing' - the performance of values without substance. This collection focuses on the former: campaigns where the cause alignment was genuine, the execution was excellent, and the result moved both commercial and social needles.

Aurora Saude pu

  2. Let Her Finish - International Women's Day · JT Agency

  5. Reverse Our Thinking - National Education Association · Weber Shandwick · 2018

The campaign confronts public cynicism and defeatist rhetoric surrounding underfunded public schools and the teaching profession. 6. BK Bully Experiment - Burger King · DAVID Miami · 2017

Burger King ran two things side by side in one restaurant: actors bullying a teenage boy in the dining room, and staff deliberately mangling customers' Whopper Jrs. Only 12 percent of diners intervened for the boy, while 95 percent complained about the burger. The film simply reports that gap, made

Directed by Andreas Nilsson for the Make It Good campaign, the film brings Clif Bar's logo climber to life as a cheerful cyclist who pedals through handmade forests and fields to the brand's own factory, doing good along the way. The craft-built miniature world dramatises Clif's mission-driven, sust

  11. The Hidden Room - Home Box · FP7 McCann · 2022

Home Box asked 329 domestic helpers to name their favourite place in the homes they work and live in. The insight: every room they described belonged to someone else, and the one that stayed hidden was their own, typically about 7 by 10 feet. Following four of them, the film turns that omission into

  12. The New President - AnNahar · Impact BBDO · 2022

The insight:

  13. Insured Billboards - easypaisa · Impact BBDO · 2023

To launch insurance products, Pakistan's largest digital bank looked up: billboard installers work at height with no safety gear. 14. The Dissolving Bottle - The Naturale Market · BBDO Guerrero · 2021

BBDO Guerrero's Dissolving Bottle: shampoo bars re-shaped as the familiar hotel mini-bottle - intuitive to use, zero plastic, all-organic, made by The Naturale Market, and open-source for any brand to adopt; the BBC called it '100% Pinoy, 0% plastic'. The insight: child marriage i

'Make Acid Unavailable to the Common Man': the after-effects of acid attacks - peeled skin, lost sight, a lifetime of visible pain - as the case for restricting over-the-counter acid sales. The insight: the weapon is a household purchase; the campaign attacks availability, the one variable regulatio

  17. Lolli: The Exhibit Nobody Wants To Talk About - Canadian Centre for Child Protection · mullenlowe psl · 2021

'Lollipop Takedown': 'lollipop' is offenders' code for child sexual abuse material - the campaign seizes the euphemism and turns it into the rallying cry against them. The insight: taking the predators' own vocabulary hostage denies them the cover of coded language.

Why this collection is worth studying

The line between genuine cause marketing and opportunistic cause marketing is visible in retrospect and often invisible in advance. What the campaigns in this collection have in common is a specificity of cause, a clarity of commitment, and a creative execution that respects the audience's intelligence. They didn't just say they cared - they proved it, through the work itself and through the actions the work called for.
