Burger King's Greatest Ads

In the late 2010s, Burger King became the most talked-about advertiser in the world not because of its media budget, but because of creative audacity. The Whopper Detour rewarded people for going to McDonald's. The Moldy Whopper celebrated what happens to real food. The McWhopper proposal offered to collaborate with its biggest rival for peace day. These campaigns won every major award, generated global press coverage, and demonstrated that a challenger brand with smart creative work can out-punch a rival ten times its size.

For Halloween, Burger King shrank its Whopper Jr. to the size and shape of a piece of candy, orderable only through its app. The insight: Halloween is built around bite-sized treats, so a candy-shaped mini burger turns the Whopper into a seasonal sweet and gives fans a playful reason to open the BK

  16. The Menu Court - Burger King · david madrid · 2021

  19. Google Home of the Whopper - Burger King · DAVID Miami · 2017

The core idea was to 'hack' Google Home devices, turning them into a medium for Burger King. Why this collection is worth studying

Burger King's advertising under David Miami and later Jones Knowles Ritchie is a case study in what happens when a client gives an agency genuine creative freedom. The campaigns are provocative, culturally savvy, and almost always built on a single audacious idea. They work because they take a real risk - and real risk, in advertising, is rarer and more valuable than any production budget.
