The Creatives Room

Healthcare Advertising

Healthcare advertising has to navigate between two demands that rarely coexist comfortably: the regulatory requirement to be accurate, and the creative requirement to be compelling. The campaigns in this collection have found ways to satisfy both - communicating complex medical realities with the kind of clarity and emotional intelligence that actually changes health behaviours. From breast cancer awareness campaigns that used humour to lower defences, to mental health campaigns that found language for experiences that previously had none, these are campaigns where the creative work served the public health mission genuinely.

The campaigns in this collection

  1. Cancer Ward - Farrar, Straus and Giroux · Oliver Munday · 2015

Cover for Solzhenitsyn's Cancer Ward. The wobbling, dislocated type and creeping purple shapes evoke illness spreading and lives thrown off their axis inside a Soviet hospital.

  2. Arrived at - Burger King

Ad for Burger King. Pairing the baby's arrival time with a delivered burger celebrates two arrivals at once - a real, human moment where comfort food meets a life-changing day.

  3. Violence against women leaves traces - Aurora Saúde · ORO Comunicação

Every March, health insurers run Women's Month work about strength, self-care and wellbeing. The one subject absent is violence against women, even though its consequences arrive in clinics daily as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, chronic pain and medication dependence. Aurora Saude pu

  4. Hidden in Plain Sight - SUN PHARMA · Artbot Advertising and FIlms

Glaucoma is called the silent thief of sight because it progresses without symptoms until the loss is already permanent. The campaign puts that alongside predators the eye genuinely fails to register - a camouflaged crocodile, a lion flat in tall grass, a scorpion the colour of sand - so the viewer

  5. Life Happens - Bupa · 2020

Health insurance is typically treated as a grudge purchase reserved for rare, worst-case medical crises, causing consumers to doubt its regular value. To build brand affinity, Bupa reframed health insurance from passive crisis coverage into active support for the unpredictable, everyday moments of l

Johnson & Johnson "Mother". A tender spot celebrating mothers and nurturing care.

  12. Dear Poppy - GMHBA · Grey · 2017

  13. Hospital - Ayadi El Mostakbal · 2019

A charity film for Ayadi El Mostakbal supporting a hospital: the outstretched hand in a golden field embodies hope and help - an invitation to reach back and give.

  14. Care for Life - Apo · Accenture Song · 2023

"Care for Life" for Apo: a quiet, reflective moment on the road frames the health/pharmacy brand as a companion through life's journey - caring for people at every stage.

  15. Essential Workers - Nurse - AT&T · 2023

AT&T's "Essential Workers" honouring a nurse: an unvarnished portrait of a frontline carer ties the telecom's connectivity to supporting the heroes who kept going.

  16. Getting You Ready For Life - Burjeel Medical City · Impact BBDO · 2023

When health is on the line, technology alone isn't enough - Burjeel Medical City reframed advanced medicine around what it's for: getting you ready for life, not just through illness. The insight: hospitals advertise machines; patients buy futures. Lead with the life after the treatment.

  17. Teacher's Day - Mankind Pharma · ADK Fortune Communications Pvt. Ltd. · 2020

Mankind Pharma's Teachers' Day film: the pandemic's real teachers were doctors, pharmacists, police and sanitation workers - the people whose example taught the country to cope. The insight: reframe the occasion around who actually did the teaching this year; gratitude as the lesson learned.

  18. Help Is Part Of It - frontline workers counseling project · TBWA\Chiat\Day · 2020

The Frontline Workers Counseling Project: free mental-health counselling for every Bay Area frontline worker, whatever their position. The insight: the pandemic's helpers were structurally last in line for help; the campaign's whole job is the permission slip - you're not alone, and it costs nothing

  19. Some disasters can be prevented - UNIFRANZ · Malditos Agency · 2026

Malditos Agency for Unifranz, World Melanoma Day: 'Some disasters can be prevented' - a mole becomes a wildfire, a lesion an oil spill, damaged skin a drought. The insight: nobody inspects their skin, but everyone recognises environmental catastrophe; scaling the melanoma up to disaster-footage size

  20. Steps - ikea · mother london · 2019

To launch its sustainable Greenwich store, IKEA asked customers to arrive the greenest way possible, on foot. This UK public-health message reframes staying away from your mother on Mother's Day as an act of love. 23. They can't pretend to be what they have never seen. Donate your eyes. - fortaleza city hall · Propeg · 2015

Fortaleza City Hall's organ-donation line: "They can't pretend to be what they have never seen. Donate your eyes." The whole argument lives in one sentence - children born blind cannot even play at being the things sighted children imitate, so a cornea is not just sight, it is imagination and play.

  24. Oneuse - nirlife · DDB, India · 2016

Nirlife's Oneuse campaign for disposable syringes confronts the deadly cost of reuse. The insight: a syringe used more than once can carry HIV and other infections from one patient to the next, so the work dramatises single-use as the line between safe care and silent transmission, making disposabil

Why this collection is worth studying

Healthcare advertising is one of the categories where the consequences of creative failure are most serious. Badly made work can spread misinformation, reinforce stigma, or simply fail to reach people who need the message. The campaigns in this collection are worth studying because they found ways to be accurate without being clinical, and emotionally engaging without being exploitative. That balance is the essential craft of healthcare communication.
